Pastor Jay Eberly
Jay Eberly has been in full-time ministry nearly 30 years. Pastor Jay and his wife, Debbie, started Harvest Christian Daycare and Learning Center in January 2009. He has enjoyed watching the Lord prosper the daycare over the years. Pastor Jay emphasizes that the Word be taught in the daycare and people be treated with the love of God.
Pastor Jay is the Senior Pastor of Spirit of Faith Family Church, a growing and thriving body of believers in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is the host of the Spirit of Faith Today television broadcast, and his live stream broadcasts and podcasts have been followed around the world. Furthermore, he and Debbie have a strong call to help train ministers and leaders in the Body of Christ, and are founders of Spirit of Faith Bible Training Center for ministers and laymen.
Katie grew up in Morton, Illinois and has lived in the Cedar Rapids area for fifteen years. She is married and has a bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa in Business, and an associates degree from Illinois Central College. Katie worked for eight years as a software project manager and was certified through the Project Management Institute. She has received the National Administrator Credential through the National Child Care Association. At Spirit of Faith Family Church, Katie serves as the Director of Kingdom Kids, Jay Eberly Ministries, and the Publishing Department. She also serves as a teacher in the Faith Racers classroom (1st - 5th grade) and does various other roles. Her hobbies include studying the Word, reading, cooking and spending time with family. Katie says, "I have the honor to serve as Director at Harvest Christian Daycare and Learning Center, which I love because I get to see smiling children's faces each and every day. Children brighten my world, and I love to get to interact with them on a daily basis."
Kimberly was born in Cedar Rapids and has lived in the area for most of her life. She graduated from high school and then earned her certificate as an ophthalmic assistant. Kimberly's work experience includes positions such as distribution manager for Frontier Herbs, kitchen and hospitality manager at Carlos O Kelly's and ophthalmic assistant at Iowa Eye Center. Kimberly and her husband Brennan have four children: Alexis, Lily, Chloe and Ella. Besides caring for her own children, she has experience as a Coordinator of the Righteousness Express (Nursery) Department at Spirit of Faith Family Church, Sunday school teacher, assistant coach for sports, school PTO worker and volunteer at school. Kimberly enjoys cooking, studying the Word of God and spending time with her family. Kimberly says, "It is truly an honor to be a part of Harvest Christian Daycare. Watching each child grow, learn and develop is so amazing to me. To be able to share God's love with them each and every day is my favorite part."
Melissa was born in Cedar Rapids and has lived in the Corridor area for 27 years. After she graduated from high school, Melissa attended Cosmetology College and Rhema Bible Training Center. Melissa has worked as sound booth director and various church helps ministry positions.
Her previous experience with children includes working as youth leader, as well as lead teacher in children’s church and kindergarten classes. Melissa and her husband Bryan have two children, Given Grace and Jude Mitchell. Melissa enjoys all aspects of music, and she loves praise and worship and singing. Melissa says, “I am excited to be a part of the Harvest Christian Daycare team because I know the Godly values that will be instilled in the children and families every day. What an amazing opportunity to see the children learn everyday things all the while God is in all of it.”
Accounts Personnel / Lead Teacher
Jennifer Rothwell was born in Cedar Rapids and has lived here her entire life. She earned her AA degree from Kirkwood. Jennifer was previously employed at a financial institution for ten years. She and her husband love to travel and spend time with their Border Collie, Samantha. Jennifer's experience working with children includes serving as the DOT (Children’s) Coordinator for the last five years at Spirit of Faith Family Church. Her hobby is making people laugh. Jennifer also enjoys writing and developing ideas she has for ministering to children with what she has been taught from her pastors. Jennifer says, "Of course, I love working at Harvest Christian Daycare. I know that I am in the perfect will of God for my life. Therefore, I love where I am!"
Kitchen Supervisor / Lead Teacher
Linda was born in Fort Ord, California and has lived in this area for seventeen years. She graduated from Temple Baptist Academy. Linda has four children. Her previous work experience includes data entry, filing, sorting, assembly work and dry cleaner experience. Linda’s experience working with children includes positions in day care, church nursery, Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader and children’s church department leader. Linda is especially gifted in the areas of singing and sewing. Linda says, “I love working at Harvest Christian Daycare. It is truly a place where you can grow as well as watch the children grow spiritually and physically. I also enjoy cooking and working with them.”
Kitchen Lead / Assistant Teacher
Corey was born in Glendora, California and he has lived in this area since 1998. He was home schooled and graduated in May 2012 with honors. Corey's experience working with children includes babysitting for other parents’ children. His hobbies are cooking, drawing, building, camera and TV editing and problem solving (like Sherlock Holmes, he says). Corey says, "One thing I really enjoy is when I teach the kids, I get to watch them grow and use what I taught them."
Brennden was born in Lakenheath, England. He is married and currently lives in Cedar Rapids. He has attended Spirit of Faith since 2005. Brennden has previously worked in the restaurant and food industry. Brennden works in various roles at Harvest Christian Daycare, but primarily works as a driver/teacher in the Before and After School program. He also helps with general maintenance and landscaping. He is an uncle of two nephews, Noah and Eli and helped watch them often when they were young. Brennden states, “Just being at the daycare has blessed me more than I’ve possibly imagined.”
Anne was born in South Bend, Indiana and has lived in this area over fifty years. Anne has 30 years experience in the food management industry. Anne loves children and has taught Sunday School in the past. Anne says, “…having been a single mom needing to utilize daycares, I love that we've created a safe and loving place where children are nurtured, loved and equipped to live successful lives for Christ. Cedar Rapids is so blessed to have HCDC.” Anne enjoys biking, hiking and anything outdoors with her husband.
McKennan was born and raised in the Coralville area. She graduated from Iowa City West with honors and is an eight time state champion in track and a three time state champion in the long jump. She is currently a student at Spirit of Faith Bible Training Center. Prior to working at HCD, McKennan was a hostess, worked retail, coached girls’ high school track, and was a pre-school teacher’s aide. She attends Spirit of Faith Family Church and has worked in the church nursery since she was 10. She has also babysat just as long and worked as a nanny over multiple summers. She has also completed early childhood trainings. McKennan says, “I love working here because I have always loved children and working with them. I’ve wanted to be a teacher since I was in Kindergarten! Being able to teach the little ones not only the basics but the Word of God and the love of God is awesome! The atmosphere here is much different than any other daycare or school. It’s just one big happy family!” In her spare time, McKennan loves hanging out with her friends and family, shopping, and being outdoors.
Alexis was born in Cedar Rapids and has lived here her whole life. She graduated high school with honors in Volunteering and Citizenship. She is currently attending Kirkwood Community College. She has experience working with children in the nursery at Spirit of Faith Family Church, coaching soccer, PTO and helping with three younger siblings. She has received some special training through high school classes she took: Child Health and Wellness and Communication Play. Alexis says, “I love getting to answer all of their questions and show the children new skills.” Her hobbies including painting, reading and writing.
Chloe was born in Cedar Rapids and has lived here all her life. She is currently enrolled in a home school program. Her experience working with children includes volunteering at church and babysitting. Chloe enjoys designing arts and crafts for children and designing wedding dresses. She says she loves volunteering at Harvest Christian Daycare because “…we get to share the Word of God with the children.”
Assistant Teacher / Kitchen Helper
Lily was born and raised in the Cedar Rapids area. She is currently enrolled in the Benton Community Home School Assistance program. Her previous work experience includes babysitting her sisters and her neighbor’s children. Lily enjoys baking, cooking and cleaning, which she gets to do while volunteering in the kitchen. Lily says, “I love working at HCD because I love seeing the children’s faces every morning when I walk in. I also enjoy seeing the children learn as I teach them about God. It’s really fun to cook for them too!”
Assistant Teacher / Kitchen Helper
Chad was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and has lived in this area for seventeen years. He is currently home schooled. Chad enjoys playing video games and has won trophies in Tae Kwon Do tournaments. Chad does much volunteering at Spirit of Faith Family Church and enjoys talking to the children.
Christine was born in East Los Angeles, California and has lived in the Cedar Rapids/Marion area since November 1997. She graduated from high school, was on the principal honor roll and published a booked called "Just Like That." Christine has worked in various secretarial, appraising, banking and housekeeping positions. She is married and currently works in the Front Office at Spirit of Faith Family Church. Christine’s experience working with children includes raising and home-schooling her own four children, assisting her mother who was a special education teacher and working as a candy striper on the children's floor at General Hospital in Los Angeles. She loves to hike, bike, spend time with her family, listen to music and read. Christine says, “I love working at Harvest Christian Daycare because I get an opportunity to show the love of God to each and every child. They are so special to me!”
Courteney Case was born in Glendora, California and has lived in this area for over ten years. She graduated from the Marion Homeschooling Program with disciplinary honors. Courteney has previous experience working with children from her baby-sitting jobs. Her hobbies include reading and writing. Courteney says, “I love working at Harvest Christian Daycare because I have the ability to make a difference in each child’s life by implementing character through example or teaching and expressing God’s love for them no matter who they are.”
Rachel was born in Chicago, Illinois and has lived in this area for twelve years. Her other work experience includes volunteering at her school’s library. Rachel is currently in high school. Her hobbies include reading, building robots and spending time with family and friends. Rachel says, “I love the Christian environment and playing an important role in the kids’ lives.”
Ellen was born in Cedar Rapids and has lived here her entire life. She graduated from Washington High School and is married. Ellen worked previously in another daycare center, and she has much experience working with children. She enjoys reading, spending time with her family and home schooling her daughter, Kati. Ellen attends Spirit of Faith Family Church, and she teaches in the preschool classroom. Ellen says, “I love watching children grow and learn about themselves and how God loves them.”
Ashley was born and raised in Cedar Rapids. She grew up attending Spirit of Faith Family Church and started working as a Junior Helper in the church nursery at age 11. Aside from working in the nursery, she has been a babysitter for numerous years. Ashley is a part-time assistant teacher in a number of our classrooms. She is also currently being homeschooled with her 3 brothers and sister. She loves reading, shopping, hiking and reading. She says the reason she loves working at HCD is because, “I love the peaceful atmosphere and seeing the children smile!”
Kim was born in Osage, but grew up on a farm outside of Elma, IA. She graduated from Crestwood High School in Cresco, IA. After high school she moved to Waterloo where she attended Hawkeye Community College and graduated with a General Studies degree. She then transferred to UNI and graduated with a General Studies major and Art minor. Her previous work experience includes babysitting and working at a summer camp and a daycare in Waterloo. Kim has also worked with children at Spirit of Faith Family Church in the Nursery. She enjoys reading, being outdoors, spending time with friends and family, shopping and spending time with God and His Word. She loves working at HCD because, “I love seeing the joy and excitement on the children’s’ faces and I love the people I get to work with. It is a blessing to be able to sow seeds into each child’s life.”
Josalyn Sheppard was born in San Bernardino, California and has lived in Iowa for most of her life. She graduated high school and then attended Rhema Bible Training Center, before moving back to Cedar Rapids and getting married. Her previous work experience includes the positions at the Cedar Rapids Kernel’s and Gordman's. She has worked with children at Spirit of Faith and Rhema Bible Church. She enjoys singing, playing the piano and writing her own music. Josalyn says, "I love working at Harvest Christian Daycare because it is allowing me to grow and learn from the children every day. As I strive to teach them, I find, I learn something new from them instead."
Vanessa was born in Riverside, California and at the age of 10 moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from Jefferson High School and attended the University of Northern Iowa where she graduated with her BA of Arts. Vanessa has previous experience working in the church Nursery, as well as teaching children's acting/modeling classes in 2009. Vanessa owns her own graphics design business alongside working at the daycare. Vanessa says, "I love working with the kids in my classroom and seeing how they grow from day to day. Getting to plants seeds of the Word, faith and love into their hearts is such a blessing. I have the wonderful opportunity of working at a job where I get to see little miracles everyday!
Lee Ann Slaymaker
Volunteer / Grocery Shopper
Lee Ann grew up in Belle Plaine, Iowa and has lived in this area for around twenty-five years. She is a licensed cosmetologist, is married and owns her own business in North Liberty. Lee Ann’s experience working with children includes serving in the church nursery and caring for her two boys, Luke and Mason. She loves encouraging and loving on others and she feels blessed to be on the praise and worship team at Spirit of Faith Family Church. Lee Ann enjoys working at Harvest Christian Daycare because “…they go to extreme lengths to provide excellence in every area. They care and provide love for each and every child- true love that comes from the heart, just as you would love your own child! It is such an honor and a blessing to be a part of Harvest Christian Daycare and to be able to love on the children!”
Mary was born in Cedar Rapids and has lived here her entire life. She graduated from Marion High School. Not too long after graduation, Mary learned that God wanted her to work at Harvest Christian Daycare. Mary has experience working with children from serving in the nursery during church and she feels that God has helped her to grow tremendously in this area. Mary loves her job here. She says “I love to see the children grow and change and be touched by God's power every day. I'm just so thankful for the opportunity to serve God and to love on the little ones.”
Lead Teacher / Academy of Tutoring
Rachel has lived most of her life in and around Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She earned a BA in Secondary English Teaching from UNI in 2006 and an MA in Education with a 7-12 grade Reading Endorsement from Viterbo University in 2009. She taught at Linn-Mar High School from 2007-2009 and 8th grade language arts in Independence, Iowa from 2009-2014. She is also a student at Spirit of Faith Bible Training Center. She currently lives in Cedar Rapids with her husband, Rob and young daughter, Ella. She loves being a mom and wife! Rachel has been involved in church and helps ministry at Spirit of Faith Family Church since 2004, serving in Nursery, DOT and Youth. Rachel loves working at Harvest Christian Daycare because it is where God placed her. She loves teaching the little three year olds, and also working with the older elementary students. Rachel also tutors through the Academy of Tutoring and enjoys tutoring children of all ages with various academic needs.
Assistant Teacher / Driver
Rob was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and has lived here for thirty years. He has a high school education and some classes at Kirkwood Community College. His work experience includes General Contractor, Hy-Vee, Budget Rental Cars, AAA Investigation & Security and LL Pelling. His experience working with children includes helping in children’s church and the Youth group at Spirit of Faith Family Church. Rob enjoys working on cars and problem solving. He says he enjoys working at Harvest Christian Daycare because, “I get to build relationships with the children, play games with them, learn about them and talk with them.”
Maya was born in Tallahassee, Florida, but has lived most of her life in the Iowa City area. She graduated from Iowa City High, completed her BA at the University of Iowa in Spanish and completed a Secondary Spanish Endorsement Teaching Certification through RAPIL. She has an extensive background working with children. Her experience has included working at summer camps at the University of Iowa and the University of Michigan, substitute teaching within the Iowa City Community School District and the Clear Creek Amana School District, being a Para Educator for four years with special needs children, being a translator for parents new to the school district, serving as a Youth Team Leader at Spirit of Faith Family Church, tutoring high school students in Algebra and Spanish, and finally being a supervisor for the After School Study Program at Iowa City West High. Maya is also licensed as a respite care provider for foster families. Maya loves working at HCD because, “I love the privilege of being part of a team of teachers, staff and volunteers that are influencing young people for Jesus. I also enjoy the opportunity of being able to share in the milestones, growth and development (not only academically) but spiritually of each child.” In her free time Maya enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with her husband Andre and her two children Micah and Azariah.
Bonnie was born in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and grew up on a farm in Wayland, Iowa. She attended colleges in Kansas and Indiana and obtained a degree in nursing. Bonnie has worked as a registered nurse for many years, working in medical-surgical nursing and most recently as an administrative nurse in geriatric nursing. She is married and has two married sons and one nine-year-old grandson. Bonnie has worked in the nursery department at Spirit of Faith Family Church for approximately nine years. Her hobbies include reading, cooking and baking. Bonnie says, “I enjoy working in the daycare. It is such a blessing to plant the word of God into young children and see that seed grow as they develop and mature in the things of God.”
Pastor Debbie Eberly
Pastor Debbie, along with her husband, Pastor Jay Eberly, started Harvest Christian Daycare and Learning Center in January 2009. Pastor Debbie continues to be extensively involved in the planning and operations of the daycare. She has enjoyed watching the Lord prosper the daycare over the years. Pastor Debbie emphasizes that the children be taught how to put God first and walk in love.
Pastor Debbie Eberly has a strong anointing to minister. She has also served in children’s and youth ministries for several years, attended Oral Roberts University, and presently serves as Associate Pastor of Spirit of Faith Family Church. Her responsibilities include preaching, teaching and overseeing the helps ministry at SOFFC. Pastor Debbie is talented musically in piano, guitar and song. She is ordained under Ed Dufresne Ministries and recently celebrated 30 years of ministry. Together, Pastors Jay & Debbie also travel throughout the U.S.A. and overseas, preaching and ministering the Word and moving with the Holy Spirit.
Lisa has lived in and around Cedar Rapids for most of her life. She went back to school and received her Associates Degree in Applied Science in Medical Assisting and is currently enrolled in Spirit of Faith Bible Training Center. For the last 4 ½ years Lisa has worked at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital in the Center for Disabilities and Development. She worked with children that had physical and mental disabilities. While working at the U of I she received special training to work with adults and children who are non-verbal and/or have challenging behaviors. Lisa’s son, Golyfe has attended HCD since 2009. Lisa says, “I am excited to work at HCD where the Word of God is part of every child’s life who attends here.” In her free time, Lisa enjoys shopping in Galena and playing at the park with Golyfe.
Martrina "Trina" Harris
Trina was born in Germany. She moved from Georgia two years ago to settle in Iowa. She has her BA in English and has previously worked at Turner Elementary, KinderCare and McGrath Automotive. Trina loves to sew, sing on her Praise & Worship team and act on the stage. She recently had the leading role in a play at Theatre Cedar Rapids. While in the musical, she received the Doug “DJ” Jackson Sprit Award. When asked why she loves working at HCD, Trina says, “I’m excited to share Jesus with a new family and children.”
Candace was raised on a small farm in Lowden, Iowa with six sisters. She attended American Institute of Business in Des Moines and was employed at a Financial Company in Cedar Rapids where she managed 60 employees. She made a career change 8 years ago into a Complimentary Healthcare field and began Hospice training. Candace has a wonderful supportive husband, Brian and two amazing boys. She has previous experience as a Sunday School Teacher and a college instructor. She says she loves working at HCD because, “This daycare far exceeds and excels beyond the required standards. The love and caring atmosphere is an attribute of all the staff who bring their gifts and talents and shares them with each other while teaching and loving all the children. The prayers and the presence of God create a healing and thriving environment for all.” Candace also loves spending time with the Lord, her family, friends, and having fun doing sport activities outdoors.
Assistant Teacher / Bus Driver
Don was born and raised in Washington, Iowa. He attended Rhema Bible Training Center for two years and is currently enrolled as a student at Spirit of Faith Bible Training Center. Don and his wife, Carla, have helped plant three churches in Kansas and Iowa and have pastored in both states for a combined total of over 26 years. He has coached basketball, baseball, and softball. In his free time, Don loves sports and breaking horses. He and his wife have three sons and two granddaughters.
Lynne was born in Los Angeles, California, but has lived the last 43 years in Iowa. She received her BA in Chemistry at Clarke College. She has previously worked in the Medical Pathology Labs as a SHL Environmental Chemist & QA/QC Director at Land O’Lakes. Lynne loves children and has spent many of her years babysitting. In her spare time, Lynne enjoys stained glass painting, visiting her family, walking her two dogs and water sports.
Caitlin was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, but has lived in Cedar Rapids for most of her life. She graduated from Xavier High School in 2012 and is currently attending Kirkwood in the graphic design program. Caitlin is a very accomplished ice skater and has received first place in numerous competitions. Besides working at HCD, Caitlin is also a coach for both the Learn to Skate Program and hockey at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. Caitlin has experience working with children through Vacation Bible School, Youth Ministry, babysitting and coaching. Caitlin enjoys drawing, art, watching hockey, and working with computers. She says, “I love working at Harvest Christian Daycare because of the friendly environment created by the staff, the children and their families.”
BreAnna was born in Cedar Rapids, and has lived here her whole life. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. BreAnna is currently taking classes at Kirkwood Community College. Her experience with children includes teaching and working with them during Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Bible Camp. BreAnna enjoys running, drawing, photography, and talking about the Word. BreAnna says, “I love working at Harvest Christian Daycare because I get to interact with the kids each day and watch them grow and develop.”
Maiana was born in Pennsylvania but has grown up in Iowa. She graduated from Jefferson High School and plans to go back to college to study Early Childhood Development. Maiana was previously employed by the Marriott, but has also cared for children in her family and at her church. She has a young daughter named Bryleigh and enjoys spending time with her. When asked why she enjoys working at Harvest Christian Daycare, Maiana states, “Because I love kids and I love being able to teach them new things!”
Kathy was born and raised in Iowa, but moved to Colorado at the age of 23. During her years in Colorado, Kathy held several positions in the medical and educational arena. She worked in a doctor’s office, a nursing home, at a church, and for a school district. Before coming to HCD, Kathy was employed by the College Community School District. In her free time, Kathy enjoys making cards and stamping. She also has a gift for singing and creating beautiful crafts. When asked why she loves working at HCD, Kathy says, “I love getting back into a Christian atmosphere!”
Noah is the third of seven children and has lived in Iowa his whole life. Growing up in a large family with several younger siblings has given him quite a bit of experience working with children. This is Noah’s first employment opportunity and he says, “I love working with my Christian family and working here is a great form of ministry!” He is a very active person and enjoys playing baseball, basketball, soccer, badminton, and riding his bike. Noah is a music enthusiast and plays guitar by ear. Aside from all of these activities, Noah also enjoys playing chess and racing RC cars.
Ryan has lived in Iowa his whole life. Before coming to HCD, Ryan worked at a bakery as a Barista and cared for a special needs child a few times a week. He has also worked in the church nursery as a Junior Helper and in the Faith Racer’s Department as a Youth Sound Operator. In his spare time Ryan enjoys Tae Kwon Do and is a 2nd degree black belt. He enjoys animals and considers himself “The Dog Whisperer.” He loves being outdoors, hunting, fishing, watching football and basketball. Ryan loves working at HCD because, “It’s a fun Christian environment!”
T’Keyah was born in Elk Road Village, Illinois, but has lived in Iowa for most of her life. She graduated from Iowa City West High School in 2012 and attended UNI for three years. T’Keyah has worked with children for many years. She has worked in her mother’s daycare, for the YWCA in their before and after school program, worked in the church nursery at SOFFC and been an instructor for 3-12 year old gymnasts. T’Keyah is very excited and blessed to be a part of the HCD team. She says, “Not only do I get to work with children, but I get to be a strong impact on their lives and help them develop and grow!” In her free time T’Keyah likes to read, spend time with family and friends, shop and play recreational sports.
Jameka (Ta'nae) Wilson
Tanae was born in Pennsylvania, but has lived in Iowa for the last 17 years. She has previously worked as a CNA, Activity Assistant and Dietary Aide at an area nursing home. Tanae has also worked with children at her grandmother’s daycare as well as in her church’s children’s program. Tanae loves helping all people, but especially children and the elderly and believes this is one of her special gifts. Being able to do a task for someone that they can’t do for themselves is something she takes joy in. Tanae says, “I love working here because the program is Christ based and the children are taught from a young age about God--just like I was.” Tanae also has a son named Ke’Shon.
Ella Budak is one of the youngest people to ever start volunteering her time at HCD. She was born and raised in the Cedar Rapids area. She is currently home schooled. Aside from working in the kitchen, Ella serves in the Nursery at Sprit of Faith Family Church. She also gets frequent requests to babysit. Ella’s heart to serve is so large and her response to why she loves working at HCD says it all, “I have to be a blessing and I love to see the smiles on their faces!”
